Adjacent to the town of New River, Anthem is a planned suburb only 34 miles north of downtown Phoenix that opened in 1998 as the result of a Del Webb development. The community has grown since its founding and now has a population of about 40,000 residents. Phoenix plans to annex the community by 2020. Anthem has been described by Phoenix Magazine as one of the best places to live in Arizona, and Parenting Magazine declared Anthem to be the best place to raise a family in a 2003 issue. The community is known for its breathtaking views of the mountains and its numerous golfing, hiking, and other recreational opportunities.
Unfortunately, due to the community’s young age, transportation in and out of the area is extremely limited. Interstate 17 is the only roadway connecting Anthem to the Phoenix metropolitan area, which can sometimes result in traffic delays. However, the Arizona Department of Transportation has plans to widen the interstate in by 2009, there will be added lanes traveling in both directions. Currently, automobile is the only mode of transportation in and out of the community. Bus service has not yet been extended from Phoenix to Anthem, and taxis to Anthem are relatively expensive.
Anthem is a charming community that offers its residents many fun events such as a community get together known as the After 5 Mixer. Other events offered to Anthem’s residents include musical performances, community fun runs, family fairs in the park, community picnics, and BINGO nights. Anthem is a beautiful and peaceful community that has something to offer to every resident or guest.
